National Science Week 15-23 Aug 09

It is Australia's National Science Week 15 - 23 August 2009.
There are various activities nationally and a major "Star Hunt" competition for the budding astronomers in our communities!

ANSW is in its 12th year and features hundreds of events around Australia. Also four internationally renowned scientists are touring the country giving presentations. They are:-

Megan McArthur: NASA Astronaut

Tanya Ha: Environmentalist

Scott Sampson: Palaeontologist

Lawrence Krauss: Theoretical Physicist

The National Science Week is organised by the Federal Government Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research as well as CSIRO , ABC, Australian Science Teachers Association and Shac Communication.

It is a pity that the organisers havent used all the Web 2.0 apps. Perhaps a National Science Week Blog rather than MySpace or Facebook would have had more impact online, along with Twitter.

On a cool note, why don't you register a message on the following web site, Hello From Earth.
This has been organised by COSMOS magazine in conjunction with National Science Week.

Text messages collected on this site will be transmitted to the closest Earth-like planet that might have life: Gliese 581d.

At the end of Science Week, NASA will transmit the messages using Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex at Tidbinbilla.
